HOMER Energy Acquired by UL

We're pleased to announce that HOMER Energy has been acquired by UL (Underwriters Laboratories). HOMER provides the leading software platform for microgrid and distributed generation power system design and optimization, and is based in Boulder, CO.

HOMER was first conceived at the National Research Energy Laboratory, where company Founder Peter Lilienthal was an early and tireless advocate for both distributed energy and microgrids. After founding HOMER in 2009, and under the leadership of Peter and COO Marilyn Walker, HOMER grew quickly, and soon garnered a global following and reputation.

Founded in 1894, UL is the largest and oldest independent testing laboratory in the United States, and is a global leader with offices in over 45 countries. The acquisition will combine UL’s expertise in solar, wind and battery technology with HOMER Energy’s microgrid system expertise. In addition, UL’s vast knowledge and capabilities in product testing and certification will join with HOMER’s systems and project database to further expand the reliability and consistency of distributed energy projects.

Distributed energy is a fascinating and fast-moving field. HOMER was first brought to our attention by a former client back in 2015; since then we’ve watched both them and the industry grow. ClearCreek was privileged to serve as the exclusive financial advisor to HOMER Energy; it changed our personal views on energy use and policy, and we believe HOMER will a catalyst for continued change for energy production across the world.
